USC High School Math Contest - 1997 Info

The Twelfth Annual High School Mathematics Contest at the University of South Carolina is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 1997. All South Carolina high schools are cordially invited to participate. Our goal is to stimulate interest in mathematics among secondary students and to recognize those who exhibit exceptional talent. At the conclusion of the contest, prizes will be awarded to outstanding individual participants and to winning teams. Prizes include a four-year full tuition scholarship, and a four-year half-tuition scholarship to attend USC.

If you would like an application form, please call Bob Murphy at (803)777-4686 or send email to murphy. Due to space limitations, only the first sixty schools to apply can be accepted. Applications must be postmarked by November 10.

The registration for the Contest will begin at 9:00 a.m. on December 6. A brief welcoming ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Law School Auditorium. The contest will consist of two parts. A written multiple choice examination will begin at 10:30 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 p.m. After a lunch break, the participants will assemble in the Law School Auditorium at 1:15 p.m. for a ciphering contest. While team scores are being computed, we will have a single elimination mathematics tournament featuring the sixteen students who scored the highest on the written test. An awards ceremony at 2:45 p.m. will conclude the day's activities.
